Many Indian historians have written on the partition of India and Anita Inder Singh's book The Origins of the Partition of India (Oxford University Press) is no exception. This book discusses the partition and communalism and raises a number of queries. The work also looks at possible reasons for what has been termed the "scuttle" from India by the impoverished post-war Labour Government in the United Kingdom.
Origins of the Partition of India in Medieval History?
Penderel Moon supervised Inder Singh with her thesis, so it seems likely that this book offers an educated viewpoint of this point in history. The book follows on from Inder Singh's thesis. One of Inder Singh's principal opening suggestions is that the origins of the partition of India can be traced back to the medieval period in Indian history. She does not follow through on this theory however and focuses in depth on events in India from 1936 onwards.
